5 New Monsters

I made five new monsters, each one of them cute in their own way. Tomorrow, I promise, I will share them with you - well at least one of you - the one who keeps visiting every day.

New Monsters

Cecil speaks with a pronounced lisp, most likely because his tongue hangs out of his mouth all the time. He is enrolled in speech therapy but it doesn't seem to be helping.

This is Simon. For the first time, I'm using doll eyes. And I'm really excited about how they look. You could see Simon is excited too. He's really full of himself. He knows he's different and it's going to his head.
Simon Front

Arturo also benefits from my new purchase of doll eyes but he's not as smart as Simon and doesn't know enough to have a big head. He's loving and sweet.

Maxine

Over a week ago, I made a female counterpart to our upstanding superhero monster Max (pictured right) but I'm not sure how I feel about her. She's more asymmetrical than any of the other monsters. But she is pink and soft. Maybe because she's made from soft terry cloth and stuffed wtih cotton - maybe that's why she doesn't seem so tough. What do you think? Should I try to sell her anyway - in spite of her irregularities?

Splush

I sold Splush and I'm sending him to Charlotte, NC.

I hope he likes it there. But he should. Most of my monsters are very agreeable. Especially this one.

Etsy Treasury

Etsy gives members opportunities to show off their favorite items in their treasury. I made one yesterday. This is it. Please visit my treasury and support the great artists who made the great pocket mirrors that are featured.

Zoey and Her New Toy

I received a nice surprise yesterday by way of a photo of one of my toys in use. My friend's dog Zoey really likes her new toy. I never thought of making toys for dogs but now I'm considering it.

Not only did my friend send me this great picture, but she also mentioned my Etsy website on her Flickr page. Thanks.

Brainerd and Headly

I cancelled Brainerd and Headly's listing on Etsy. They are very cute but I'm having a technical problem with them. The polyester fiberfill stuffing is pushing its way through their microfiber sock bodies, giving them the appearance of shedding. I just can't sell them like this. If you look at the blown version of their pictures you can see what I mean.

Oh well. I guess for now they'll have to stay home with us.

Clops

Clops Want Coffee

I can't believe I sold Clops. He's been listed on Etsy for such a long time. I find it interesting that people are buying the dolls that I like the best. This is a good change for me because in college when I took various photography classes people NEVER liked the work that I thought was best and always liked the stuff I didn't care for.

It gave me the impression that I just didn't have a good eye or good taste and I was discouraged from pursuing photography. But these little acknowlegements of my current work through purchases are helping to build my confidence.

Bean in Central Park

Bean came with Jon and me on our bike ride through Central Park. He really liked the pond up at 100th street where we stopped so I could recover from riding up those darn hills. But Bean didn't seem to mind the hills - probably because he was packed away comfortably in my fanny pack.

Two More Sold

Overnight, I sold two sock monsters to one buyer in New Mexico.

I never thought I would sell these two because they are not the cutest in the bunch.

Sigmund

This is Sigmund. Sigmund looks like someone I grew up with. Hard to believe but true. Sigmund can count to 10 in three languages. He can also converse fluently in the hybrid language monster-english. We love him but we need to find him a new home. His curiosity is insatiable and he drives us crazy with his constant questioning of everything. He's very soft and cuddly which is why he's part of the slumber party series.

Louis Lapin

I've been very busy making new monsters. I have five new ones that I'm selling on my Etsy site. Then there's this one. His name is Louis Lapin. I'm sending him to live with my grandmother in France. I just love how he turned out.

What do you think?

Coney Island and The Bean

Our friend Bean insisted on coming to Coney Island with us yesterday. He has this idea that he wants to be photographed in front of New York landmarks. Last time, it was the Unisphere at Flushing Meadows Park Queens.

Yesterday it was the Wonderwheel. But we didn't mind. He didn't take up a lot space and he doesn't eat much.

Supply Shopping

Now that I'm completely absorbed with making sock monsters, I always have my eye out for sources of cheap socks.

Today, I came across a booth at a street fair that was selling socks for $1 a pair, a dozen for $10. I bought a dozen, which breaks down to 83 cents a pair.

That's a good deal.
